The newest Rare Release® is a contemporary classic from Panamanian coffee-producing powerhouse that proves legacies can still be built.

Despite having ancient Ethiopian origins and a history of cultivation in Central America dating back to the 1950’s, the prestige of Panama Geisha has only fairly recently been realised after a geisha from Hacienda La Esmeralda won Best of Panama with an unprecedented score of 94 points in 2004. This groundbreaking moment put the varietal on the map and rightfully so—coffee had never before been as floral, as complex, or as expensive—and heralded a new wave of Panamanian coffee producers driven by stature and terroir expression.

One of them was Eugene Altieri, who set up his estate in the Boquete highlands to produce some of the world's finest geisha coffees.

This lot, from their Mima Estate, is grown on the Chombi Block at the farm's highest elevations and is named for one of his grandchildren. The processing on this, their unique Dry Fermentation, is executed with Altieri's signature precision. Only ripe cherries are handpicked from dense and compact cherry clusters and left whole inside the harvest bags overnight to rest. In the morning they’re floated and spread out to dry on raised African beds for 5 days, then sealed in bags and fermented over 4 days. Final drying takes place in a refrigerated chamber over thirty days.

Chombi offers easily our favourite geisha of the year with a dense and juicy cup profile—sticky tropical fruit notes of vanilla bean, mango, white peach and intense hibiscus florality all coated in a luxurious syrupy body.

This is a 48g jar from our Rare Release® category. It is roasted to order and will only be shipped as wholebean.

When will my order ship?

📆 All online orders are typically shipped on Wednesday each week to ensure we get the freshest available stock to you. This means anything ordered by midnight on Tuesday is guaranteed to ship on Wednesday, orders placed after this will ship by the following Wednesday at the latest. In some cases, items may ship sooner if we have fresh stock available.

🗺 Arrival depends on where you're based —within Johannesburg orders will often arrive the day after you receive tracking information, other major centres will usually receive orders 2 days after you get a tracking number in your inbox, outlying areas may take up to 3 days.

💫 We ship free to all of South Africa on orders over R849, for orders below this value a R85 delivery fee will be included at Checkout.

You can also opt for a store pickup at our Kramerville Roastery or Rosebank Cafe, just select this option at Checkout. We'll send you a "ready to collect" notification as soon as your order is, well, ready to collect.

🌍 We offer international shipping on all orders under 2kg (that's safely 6 boxes of coffee) Unfortunately, the South African postal service is infamous for being the total opposite of a vibe so our int'l shipping is handled via Aramex or DHL. This means that int'l shippings fees are a little steep, but you'll get your coffee in record time and will be able to track it all the way to your door.

🛫 To view shipping rates for your country, simply follow the usual process people follow when shopping online (fill a cart, proceed to checkout, and enter your address & contact deets). Easy peasy.

If shipping options do not load, it means we don't currently offer shipping to your country or region. Be sure to mail us so we can fix that.

NB: some import duties may be applicable on arrival depending on your country's policies.
